  We have eaten at The Modern in the Bar Room, Dining Room and Kitchen Table and all are great, however, this review is for the Private Dining Room. We had a birthday celebration dinner for 27 guests there this past Saturday night and the food, service and venue were all amazing. An assortment of five passed canapes started the evening, then a sit down dinner with several courses including dessert. Drinks were by consumption and reasonably priced. Dietary restrictions, always a concern, were nicely accommodated. I would highly recommend the Private Dining Room for a special gathering with friends and family. How often can you do that at a two star Michelin restaurant! Reach out to Clara Lee who is the senior event sales manager there to start planning after checking out food and pricing details on The Modern's website. She and everyone else we dealt with were most helpful. We can't wait to return.

  My husband and I held a private event at The Modern with our family and friends (about 40 guests) and I must say it was a huge success! I cannot thank enough the event manager Lisa Yuk for being so patient and helpful with my endless list of questions and coordinating everything to make the event possible as well as the event maître d’ Joshua for keeping me calm and organized on the day of the event! All our guests were complimenting us on not only how delicious every dish was (our favorites were canapés and “Baby Lettuce and Sorrel Salad with Peekytoe Crab” and “Angus Beef Tenderloin with Maitake Mushrooms and Black Truffle Pommes Puree” and the celebration cake 😋) along with the drinks but the excellent service and how beautiful The Modern is with a stunning view of the MoMA’s Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden. The Modern absolutely deserves the 2 Michelin stars!! (Maybe even 3 stars? 😉) Thank you so much for making our special event so memorable and unique. Also I felt that the prices were very reasonable. And lastly giving takeaways (we chose bon bons) were a great way to thank our guests and end the event. If anyone is thinking of a special place to hold a private event in NYC, I highly recommend The Modern without hesitation! 😊🙏🏻

  Exceptional and creative. I was lucky to be part of a private event and enjoyed a cleverly designed tasting menu and drinks seamlessly tied into the event theme. The restaurant itself has a busy scene, full of corporate midtown dinners and cocktails on a weekday night. I'd happily come back on a sunny day to enjoy the backyard of moma and the memorable food and experience. Highly recommended for any special occasion. Enjoy!

  Exceptional across the board. Service from a brilliant team, incredible food and cocktails to die for. We had a large group in the Bar Room and cannot recommend the experience highly enough. Our favourite cocktail was the Melon & Green Olive with The Lost Explorer Mezcal Espadin. Delicious!

  The whole experience was underwhelming and The Modern ended up being the worst 2 star I have dined at to date. We were a party of 5, were seated 30 minutes late. The staff asked us whether we wanted to have drinks at the bar because our table was not ready yet, which we agreed to. The cocktails did not arrive until 25 minutes later. Once seated, we opted for the 275 dollar tasting menu with the wine pairing. The food was pretty good overall, with some of the dishes being memorable (eggs on eggs on eggs, the smoked sturgeon with artichoke, hiramasa with avocado and basil) and two of them being completely forgettable (diver scallops with morels, and the roasted lobster). The desert and the petit fours were a joke for a 2 Michelin star restaurant. The wines overall paired well with the courses. But what made the whole experience a sour one was the service. The service was impersonal, unenthusiastic, and cold. The staff were under-trained, confused, and lacked coordination — it was the worst service I have experienced at a Michelin establishment across the world. One would expect stellar service when the total bill is upward of 3k. We will definitely not come back and do not recommend The Modern for a fine dinning experience.
