  Dined on a Friday evening with a group of five. Bar area is small and not conducive to ordering a drink while waiting for your table (which is okay, but notable). No complaints about the food at all. The service was not great but wasn’t bad enough specifically to merit a negative review. However, what pushed me and my friends over the edge of frustration is the following event and how it was handled in such a disrespectful way by the restaurant staff: Our table was singled out and we received a visit from the manager because another table complained about our noise level. This was rich irony as we ourselves were already commenting about how loud the rest of the place was to begin with…we may have laughed a few times but we were by far not the most noisy group or close to it. The restaurant is small and it was a Friday evening. The manner in which we were approached was condescending and it felt inappropriate to reprimand a table of happy people that are spending $500 plus to quiet down. You don’t want to go out at the end of a week with your friends for a light but fun evening and leave feeling like your mood was influenced by an indifferent waitress and presumptive manager. It’s definitely not a great approach to retain customers. Hopefully these are just growing pains.

  I never post reviews for restaurants, but last night I came with a group of friends and was truly appalled at the service we received. We were sat at a U-shaped booth that faced the interior of the narrow restaurant (therefore facing the tables on the other side of the restaurant. We were all enjoying our first cocktails together /catching up when the manager came over and said we were “too loud and other guests needed to enjoy their time as much as we were.” we were talking at a normal volume for how loud the restaurant was on a friday night and it was clearly one table right across from us that complained. This was extremely unprofessional for a manager to say something to us and subsequently make us feel uncomfortable for the rest of the dinner.

  We enjoyed our evening at Hoexters. The restaurant is dark and intimate (on the smaller side) and very busy, with a lively, trendy vibe. Even though we had a reservation, we still waited about 25–30 minutes for our table, so we grabbed drinks at the bar—worth it, because the dirty martinis were delicious. Food-wise, we had salads, steak, fries, and burgers. I have to say, I wasn’t expecting the smashburger to be as good as it was—it really surprised me in the best way. Fries did come out super salty, but they did remake them for us. Service was generally pretty good, but we were disappointed that one person in our group had to wait an extra 15–20 minutes for her burger while everyone else’s food came out, and no one from the staff really acknowledged the delay. Prices were on the higher side. But to be expected for any big city. Overall, it’s a fun, trendy spot that’s great for a date or a group night out. Despite a few hiccups, we’d definitely check it out again if we’re in the area. Tip: A reservation is a must!
