  We recently celebrated my older sister’s birthday at Hutong, and overall it was a very memorable experience. We reserved one of the private dining rooms for our family, and it made the celebration feel so much more intimate and special. The room was elegant, quiet, and beautifully designed, allowing us to enjoy quality time together without feeling rushed or surrounded by too much noise. The view was honestly one of the biggest highlights of the entire evening. Looking out at the city while celebrating such an important occasion created unforgettable memories, and the atmosphere alone made the night feel luxurious. I also want to compliment the staff because the service was truly exceptional from beginning to end. Everyone was professional, friendly, attentive, and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the entire dinner. They frequently checked on our table, made sure our drinks were always refilled, answered every question we had about the menu, and helped everything run smoothly. They made my sister feel celebrated on her birthday, and our family really appreciated the extra care and attention they gave us. As for the food, you can definitely tell the ingredients are high quality and beautifully presented. Every dish looked like a piece of art, and the presentation was outstanding. Some dishes were absolutely delicious, while others weren’t quite to our personal taste. Since Hutong specializes in Sichuan cuisine, many of the dishes had a strong spicy flavor. If you love authentic Sichuan food, you’ll probably really enjoy it. Personally, my family isn’t used to eating very spicy food, so we found that almost everything had quite a bit of heat. The sea bass was fresh and cooked well, but the flavor wasn’t my favorite compared to other restaurants I’ve visited. That said, I could still appreciate the quality and care that went into preparing it. My biggest feedback is honestly about the value. We spent around $1,700 for 9 people, so this was definitely a luxury dining experience. While we expected it to be expensive, I do wish the portion sizes were a little more generous for the price. Some dishes felt quite small, especially when sharing among a large family. I also thought some of the extra charges were surprisingly high. For example, we were charged $50 just to cut and serve our birthday cake, which caught us off guard. Even simple drinks like Diet Coke were much more expensive than expected. These additional costs added up quickly and made the final bill feel even higher. That being said, I don’t regret celebrating my sister’s birthday here because the experience itself was beautiful. The elegant atmosphere, stunning views, private dining room, peaceful environment, and outstanding service created a night our family will always remember. My intention in writing this review isn’t to criticize the restaurant but to provide honest feedback. I think Hutong could make the experience even better by offering slightly larger portions for the price or reconsidering some of the additional fees, especially for special celebrations like birthdays. Overall, if you’re looking for an upscale restaurant with breathtaking views, excellent service, and a sophisticated atmosphere for a birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion, Hutong is a wonderful choice. One of those places you can work around for years and somehow never realize it’s right there—and part of me wants to gatekeep it, but it’s simply too good not to share. From the moment you walk in, the architecture and interior design are stunning. The space is classy, intimate, and low-key, yet still incredibly elegant. The ambiance feels intentional—never loud or chaotic—just beautifully curated and perfect for conversation and special moments. I first visited with two friends during happy hour just to get a feel for the space, and the food was outstanding. Every bite was memorable, and it immediately stood out as a place worth returning to for a special dinner. For the main evening, I had a reservation for a party of 12, and the hospitality truly set Hutong apart. With winter weather expected, the team was proactive and thoughtful—confirming the reservation and reassuring me that there would be no cancellation fee if plans needed to change. That level of care did not go unnoticed. Service that night was exceptional. Shoutout to Charlie, who was phenomenal—warm, attentive, and professional without ever being intrusive. He clearly led the room, and the rest of the staff matched that same level of care. Glasses were always full, timing was seamless, and even guests who arrived later were seated smoothly without disrupting the flow of the evening. One of the standout moments was when the chef personally came out to present and flame the roasted duck tableside—an incredible visual and dining experience that felt equal parts performance and perfection. To end the night, I ordered dessert of my choice, but the team surprised us by bringing out a specialty dessert and singing happy birthday. It was unbelievably delicious—truly one of those “how is this this good?” moments.   I had dined at Hutong NYC a few months ago and absolutely loved the experience, which is why I chose it for my birthday dinner. My first visit was amazing, the atmosphere, the beautiful show, everything felt special and memorable. However, this recent experience was very disappointing. I arrived exactly at my 8:00 PM reservation time. About 15 minutes before, I received a call asking if I would be there or if I wanted to push my reservation back. I confirmed I would be there at 8:00 PM. They also asked if my entire party would be present, and I explained that most of my guests would be, but I would be arriving first as the reservation holder. I was told that would be fine and I would be seated. When I arrived at 8:00 PM, I was then told I could not be seated without my full party, which directly contradicted what I was just told on the phone. I had to request a manager and waited about 15 minutes for assistance. During that time, I kept asking why my table wasn’t ready if my reservation was for 8:00 PM. I was told they were still preparing it.We were not seated until 8:40 PM—40 minutes after our reservation time. When we were finally seated, the table was not properly set for our full party. Finally once we were seated. There were only 6 chairs for a group of 9 (eventually 10 guests were present). The service felt unprepared from the start. When speaking with the general manager about not having enough seating, I was told that “they can’t rush people out” because other guests were still sitting at the table that was supposed to be assigned to us. This was especially frustrating given that I had a confirmed reservation and had already been waiting 40 minutes past my time. We also had only one waiter assigned to a large party, which made service very slow and disorganized. Even though we requested all food be served together since we were sharing appetizers and entrées, dishes came out at different times and the order was confused. We were also repeatedly asked about additional flaming duck orders even after we clearly stated once was enough, as not everyone eats duck. The staff did kindly allow us to bring in and cut our cake and removed the per-person cake fee due to the delays, which I appreciated. However, overall the experience felt very disorganized, with slow service, missing silverware, and a lack of preparation despite the reservation being made two weeks in advance. Unfortunately, I left feeling very disappointed, especially compared to my first visit, which had been so special. I will not be returning.

  This place is incredible. We went to celebrate my friend's birthday. We made a reservation for a private room on the second floor for 9 people. We had our personal waitress who was attentive to us all night. She is from Russia and very sociable. She makes you feel good as a customer. Thank you for everything. The food is incredible, especially the duck, which was served to the table by a chef. I can't wait to return again. Thank you.😊
