- private room event
Went for a private event and sat in the private dining room. The food was out of this world!! If and that is a BIG IF, you can get a reservation you must eat here. There are only 9 tables in this spot. We had the crabcakes, sizzling shrimp appetizers. Ceaser salad with salmon. Menu courses were the wagyu cheese burger, prime rib and wagyu porterhouse. The sides we had were Elote Style Corn and Truffle Mac and Cheese. You are not going to have a better meal anywhere in Manhattan nor the entire country!! Highly recommend you do what you can to go here and enjoy as much of the menu as you can!!!
- private dining inquiry
⭐☆☆☆☆ – Cold, Inflexible, and Completely Missing the Point of Hospitality In planning a very important dinner for this November (3 months in advance) with some very well known names here in NYC, I wasn’t even considering 4 Charles until I received an unsolicited email inviting me to host an event with them. I decided to explore the idea — a private dining room, full bar. I made it clear from the start that we were considering a dinner in the $10,000 range, something you would expect any restaurant should approach with enthusiasm and genuine hospitality. What I got instead was a rigid, unaccommodating back-and-forth that made it clear guest experience is not their priority. When I asked if it would be easier to book regular seating for the group rather than private dining, I was told the main dining room could seat no more than six people and that they would not make a reservation for two of us to preview the space while dining. Instead, they offered a “walk-through” of the room in the late afternoon with no dining — as though simply looking at an empty space is the same as experiencing the food and service. Here’s the thing: It is customary in the hospitality industry to allow someone considering booking a high-value event to actually try the food that will be served. This isn’t an unreasonable request — it’s standard practice. Yet 4 Charles refused to accommodate it. Every question I asked about flexibility — dates, guest count, combining a viewing with dinner — was met with polite but extremely dismissive responses that made it clear they operate on their terms only, regardless of what the guest might need or be willing to pay. The overall tone was condescending at best. Rather than making me feel valued as a potential client, they made me feel like my inquiries were an inconvenience. The entire exchange gave the impression that exclusivity here is less about quality and more about unnecessary barriers. If you want to be treated like a welcome guest when planning a major event, look elsewhere. If you enjoy cold unprofessionalism, inflexibility, and a complete lack of the most basic hospitality courtesy, then this is your place.

4 Charles should think about dropping the prime rib from its name, because that does a disservice to the other great, and arguably better, items on its menu. Came here and ate with a group of seven, which allowed us to share multiple dishes. We started with the Double Wagyu Cheeseburgers with egg, and the table unanimously agreed this should be at the top of the list for best burgers in New York. The wagyu beef was succulent, savory and tender, and you could taste the flavor dripping out of the burger with every bite. The buns are an underappreciated part of any burger, usually becoming soggy and disintegrating after awhile, but the 4 Charles buns managed to maintain their dry but fluffy consistency despite how juicy the burger and fried egg were. The Prime Rib French Dip was arguably even better than the burger, although opinion was split with our group. Suffice it to say that this may be the best french dip I've personally ever had. It has the same type of bread as the burger buns which made it easier to bite into, while the prime rib was shaved in thin slices that just melted in your mouth after dipping it into the jus and horseradish. Maybe they should think about renaming the restaurant after the French Dip. The 4 Charles Cut Roast Prime Rib, relative to the Wagyu Cheeseburger and the French Tip, was the weakest dish for all of us. Maybe because it was sliced in huge chunks that made it hard to get through, but it ended up being less flavorful and juicy than the previous two dishes, and felt more like an undercooked and underseasoned hunk of meat. If you prefer your steaks to have more seasoning and searing, the English Cut might be a better option. We decided to share the Chocolate Cream Pie to finish off the meal. Even though all of us were stuffed at this point, the pie was pretty much devoured in a few minutes thanks to how well the light Chantilly cream paired with the bittersweet Valrhona dark chocolate. The service was overall fantastic even if the place was packed on a Friday night, and the ambiance is a proper dark wood-panelled steakhouse. Final piece of advice here - if you're going to get a late seating, be prepared to walk off the meal and not go to sleep immediately after, because 4 Charles isn't the type of place that stints on its portions. They're definitely worth a visit if you're a beef-lover and can manage to snag a reservation, which you need to book 30 days in advance!
- friends lunch, party of 5
Somehow despite all the insane hype and the impossibility of getting a reservation, 4 Charles did not disappoint. On a whim, 5 of us lined up half an hour before opening on a Saturday just to see if we could get anything, and Angie was kind enough to find us an opening at 1 PM. Two in our party actually had to see a play at 2:00, but we weren't going to miss this for the world. The wagyu burger hands down is the best burger we've ever had - perfectly cooked, complemented with thick cut bacon and a runny egg. The burger can be split if you are trying multiple items, but no one would blame you if you have the entire burger to yourself. Honestly, it's the best burger out there. French dip is a must-have. We didn't think a sandwich could be that rich in flavor. Prime rib was also fantastic, though it might not be everyone's cup of tea. Several of us were hoping for more traditional steak, but no complaints. Sides were excellent as well, especially the truffle mac and cheese. Most impressive, though, was our server Miguel. He addressed every single one of our menu questions with so much detail, and knowing that two of us needed to leave early, expedited their orders in the kitchen and even offered them a slice of prime rib on the house. He also wouldn't let us leave without dessert, giving us a free try of rum ice cream. The service was truly one-of-a-kind, something you expect at 2 or 3 Michelin star restaurants. Shout out to Miguel for making it such a wonderful experience. 4 Charles is, without doubt, among the best experiences in NYC - provided your can get a reservation.
- cancelled group booking, party of 8
Wouldn't make me an order of mac n chz. Apparently they don't like money. Manager gave me a condescending pat on shoulder like they would be doing me a favor if they made me food. Incredibly horrible customer service. Hire competent enough kitchen to handle a busy day. Canceled my party of 8 at a later date. Get over yourselves.
