- rehearsal dinner, party of 27
We hosted our rehearsal dinner at Eleven Madison Park the night before our wedding, 27 people in a private room. Reviews of this restaurant focus almost entirely on the dining room, so this one is about the private-event side. The food lived up to everything you have read about it. Several of our guests said it was the best meal they had ever eaten. The tomato dishes that opened the menu were all excellent, the laminated bread was worth the trip on its own, and every version of the main course landed. It held up across tables with very different tastes. The room took our three tables of nine with room around them, and there was space near the entrance for everybody to stand with a glass for the first half hour. It is a private dining room rather than a ballroom, and it suited us well. Booking was straightforward. We wanted to arrive half an hour before our guests to check the room, which required a small amendment to the standard contract, but on the night nobody blinked: Zoey Truong, the private events manager, met us at the door, said hello, and showed us straight in. The service team looked after us for the rest of the evening exactly as you would hope at this level. Two things worth knowing, neither of them a complaint. The evening ran longer than we planned, and none of it was the restaurant. A tasting menu takes longer than its course count suggests once the amuse-bouche and the bread are in. A group of 27 takes its own time too: an extra toast, then the slow business of getting everyone settled at the start and out into cars at the end. We meant to leave at eight and left closer to half past, so allow extra time if you are going somewhere afterward. On dietary requirements, they could not have been better. The plant-based menu included sea urchin, so they built a vegan menu for several of us and something different again for another guest with their own requirements. All of it was excellent. Worth asking up front how far the menus can be adjusted, since that was the one thing we never fully worked out. As a place to gather everyone the night before a wedding, it was hard to fault.
- 70th birthday dinner, party of 14
Came here with a large party for my stepmother’s 70th birthday about a week ago. There were several hits - carrot tartar, the potato, onion broth, radishes to name a few - but the chicken they served as the main. Gracious goodness. The rubber chicken they served was so basic, so uninteresting, that it’s all anyone could talk about afterward. What happened to the duck? Was our party of ~14 just too big to make that happen? That chicken should never have left the plating station at a 3-star, but it did.
- group dinner booking, party of 7
Extremely disappointing experience. Our group reduced the reservation from 7 to 5 weeks in advance, confirmed by both email and phone, yet EMP still charged for 7 people. Being billed for seats we did not use despite early notice felt deeply unfair and left us feeling taken advantage of. The food made the situation worse. The new duck dish was shockingly dry, the vegan options were bland and uninspired. Nothing came close to Michelin quality. For a restaurant of this reputation, the entire experience felt careless, dismissive and far from honest hospitality. I strongly advise others to think twice before committing to a prepaid reservation here.
- private room dinner
We have been to EMP several times over the past few years, but have had two meals in the past week. I was actually hesitant to book the first meal, as I had a very underwhelming group dining experience in a private room in January. However, in my opinion after these two meals, EMP is as good as ever. (The first meal was so great that we didn’t hesitate to go back.) Both meals were special occasion meals booked at the last minute (we live in NYC) - one for an anniversary and the other for a birthday. The agility of the EMP team to recognize a special occasion is second to none. Both meals had special extras that were thoughtful and picked up on details mentioned during service. I find the EMP staff to be the perfect mix of down to earth and expert. This is the major leagues of fine dining and they show up like that in how they remember details and in how they move across the dining room. The food is as good as always. The bar tasting is an outstanding value in particular, as it has most of the dishes we like most from the main dining room. While we are primarily plant based, the addition of some proteins seems thoughtful and additive to those looking for a change from the menu of the past few years. I think I admire most that they’ve kept their plant based patisserie - which is most certainly the world’s finest. They seem to always be upping their game here. Bread service and brioche served with dessert are life changing. In summary, EMP deserves its 3 stars and is well worth a trip. Engage with the menu and team and you’ll likely have as a great a time as we have over the past week.
- corporate team visit
I want to preface this by saying I have had the extraordinary opportunity to travel the world and enjoy many meals at Michelin restaurants. However, eleven Madison park took the simple act of asking questions and turned it into the experience of a lifetime. I traveled to NYC with the sole purpose of experiencing Eleven Madison Park as I am leading a group of employees through a teaching on the book Unreasonable Hospitality. Our server at EMP made the effort to ask questions. He learned why we were there, about what we do, even about our pets. We were treated to a tour of the kitchens, to meet with the nights executive chef, and even sent away with gifts for ourselves but also customized gifts for our pets! EMP is the top tier place to enjoy a meal but also a once in a lifetime experience. Thank you, thank you, EMP! For making the effort to care, and to do so deeply! And thank you to our server Michael, for giving us an experience to remember!
